Air Jordan 11 Retro “Concord” Causes Insanity

The release of the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Concord” caused chaos around the world last night as thousands of consumers flocked to their local retailer with high hopes of getting their hands on the biggest Air Jordan release of the year. Similar to the release of a new Apple gadget, sidewalks and streets were loaded with kids and adults of all ages, some of whom waited in line for over 72-hours to get their hands on the $180 sneakers. Cops and K-9 units were on hand in most major cities around the US to keep the crowds in check and to ensure everybody’s safety, unfortunately, though, the presence of law enforcement and rent-a-cops didn’t prove to be enough in some areas. Windows were broken and doors were pushed in at several locations, and in Brooklyn a brawl occurred between rowdy consumers outside one of the Foot Locker stores. The story regarding the death of an 18 year-old in Washington D.C. has proven to be nothing more then a rumor.

While it was obviously the safer thing to do, getting the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Concord” online wasn’t much easier then doing so in store. The website for every major retailer was experiencing problems with its servers, causing error pages to pop-up left and right. A lot of these errors occurred while people were checking out, and those who paid with PayPal were noticing that their accounts were being charged even though they never received a confirmation email with an order number, leaving them to wonder if their order went through or if the hunt was still on. Retailers like Finish Line addressed the PayPal issue and stated that if you were charged and your order wasn’t processed, you will be refunded in the next few days. In all honesty though, not even a confirmation email confirms a pair at this time as there’s always the chance the system couldn’t keep up and too many orders were allowed. It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened. With that being said, if you talked to somebody on the phone or confirmed your purchase with a company representative since receiving your confirmation email, you should be able to rest easy. If you ordered through NikeStore, chances are you’re also good to go as Nike rarely seems to allow too many orders for a single size.

If you got the ass and weren’t able to score a pair online or in-store, now’s the time to grab a pair on eBay. This is a sneaker collectors are going to hold on to, and one that’s going to get more expensive as fewer pairs are available. The asking prices start around $300 and go beyond the $500 mark. A quick search for the Air Jordan 11 Concord brings up over 2,000 results, so there’s plenty of pairs out there for the taking. Maybe you want to ask the grandparents for an advance on your Christmas gift.

Sneaker Con Los Angeles is Tomorrow

One of the sneaker industry’s biggest shows is preparing to hit the west coast in a major way. Tomorrow, December 17th, Sneaker Con will be visiting the Los Angeles Convention Center to host what may very well be its biggest event ever. Sneaker enthusiasts in the surrounding area are encouraged to attend as the event is sure to be one to remember. A slew of sellers are expected to be on hand with a boat load of sneakers for you to ogle over, or better yet, purchase, with even more people scouting the floor looking to buy, sell and trade. Adidas will be in the building as well, bringing with them we’re sure, a few goodies to showoff to the crowd. The doors open at 12pm and admission is $12. Nike MAG 2011 Helps Raise Over $5.6 Million

Through the recent release of the Nike MAG 2011, Nike helped raise over $5.6 million to go towards the fight against Parkinson’s disease. To be exact, the 1,500 pairs auctioned on eBay over 10 days brought in a total of $5,695,190.53. Factor in the fact that Google co-founder Sergey Brin said he would match whatever Nike raised and you have a grand total of $11,390,381.10. An astonishing figure to say the least, which is going to do wonders to help the Micheal J. Fox Foundation in its research to find a cure for Parkinson’s. Below you can find a breakdown of the auction history detailing how much was raised day-to-day, how many pairs of each size there were and what the average price for each one was, and a whole bunch of other statistics you may find interesting.

House of Hoops Puerto Rico – Grand Opening Event

House of Hoops is headed to the capital of Puerto Rico. This coming Friday, September 23rd, Foot Locker will be opening a new House of House location at the Mall at Plaza Las Americas in the heart of San Juan, Puerto Rico. A grand opening event is scheduled to begin in-store at 6:30 PM, with a free basketball skills academy slated for earlier in the day at the University of Puerto Rico. There’s no mention of any special guests attending or any limited sneakers releasing, but we’re sure Foot Locker isn’t going to leave the good folks of Puerto Rico hanging without showing them a good time. If you’re in the area, swing by to see the new digs and celebrate the grand opening with like-minded people.

ATF Goes Undercover In Ohio Sneaker Store

In one of the cleverest undercover operations, ATF agents posing as employees in an Ohio-based sneaker store arrested more than 60 people who came to the store looking to trade guns, drugs and ammunition for a fresh new pair of J’s.

Tredz, a sneaker shop in Mansfield, Ohio that opened about a year ago, quickly became one of the hottest spots in Richland County for the newest Nike sneakers. Especially when word got around that if you couldn’t front the cash for the kicks, the owners were willing to accept illegal guns and drugs in exchange for payment. Or, if you didn’t want any sneakers at all, they would offer you a dollar amount for your stash.

Plenty of shady customers saw this as the perfect opportunity to build up their sneaker collections without spending a dime. Little did they know though, Tredz was a storefront sting run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The whole operation came to light last week when federal prosecutor’s unsealed indictments against more than 60 people for 121 separate criminal counts. During the year-long buyback program, ATF agents recovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition, almost 100 different firearms of various calibers, over 1,000 grams of cocaine, exactly 768 grams of crack and another 5 grams of heroin, and a medicine cabinet full of prescription pills including Oxycodone, Vicodin and Alprazolam.

In one case, an unnamed customer swapped a dozen or so guns with undercover agents over six-months for more than $5,000 in cash and four pairs of shoes. Another man who sold guns and drugs to ATF agents had already been banned from owning a pistol after an involuntary manslaughter conviction dating back to 1999.

NikeTown Employee Charged With Stealing $20K

An employee at NikeTown Chicago was arrested by authorities last week for allegedly stealing $20,000 from the flagship Nike store.

Ellean Hughes, 27, of Chicago, was picked up by local police when she arrived to work Tuesday morning after it was discovered she was ringing up bogus returns and refunding them to her own personal debit card. Hughes is being charged with 2nd degree theft, which in the state of Illinois carries a maximum punishment of 3-7 years in jail. There’s a chance she could qualify for probation given she has no priors. She’s being held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to go to court on August 2nd for a primarily hearing.

According to a report released by the state’s attorney’s office, managers at NikeTown Chicago became wary when they noticed Hughes was processing a rather unusual amount of returns through her register. As they monitored her activity, they noticed the returns were being made when no customers were around and that the money was being credited to the same debit card. As the pieces were put together, it was revealed that Hughes ripped the store off for a total of $19,239.14 since the beginning of the year.

Nike Sportswear is preparing to take the Bespoke Experience abroad yet again. Having had much success with last year’s trip to Nike Harajuku, where more than 10 Bespoke Air Force 1′s were created in under a few days, NSW decided to bring the Bespoke Experience back to it’s flagship store in Tokyo, Japan.
