New Balance looks to the classic styling found in American workwear for inspiration on a new pack of its flagship 574 model. Known as the Workwear pack, the set includes four pairs of the popular running shoe in basic tones such as navy, brown, black and grey, the common colors associated with mens workwear. Durable suede and canvas fabrics give the collection a rough and rugged edge. A release is set for sometime during the spring season.

New Balance ML999 – Grey/Purple

The New Balance ML999 gained notable attention last year when Concepts adopted the shoe for “The Kennedy“, a nautical-inspired release paying homage to the late John F. Kennedy. Since then, we’ve been seeing more new colorways of the shoe then we have in recent years. If you’re a fan of the sporty silhouette and hungry for a fresh new pair, these should fill your appetite. Available now at select New Balance retailers, such as Up There in Australia, this particular colorway of the ML999 features a grey-based upper constructed of suede and mesh, in addition to black leather trim. The standard 3M treatment is applied to the “N” logo and purple accents are strategically placed throughout the shoes to provide plenty of bite. Help support the troubled U.S. economy by buying sneakers made by actual Americans. For Spring 2012, New Balance presents a new “Made in USA” Collection featuring a group of sneakers manufactured by blue collar Americans at one of its five New England factories. The collection includes the M998, M1300 and M991 silhouettes, each featuring a premium material build with “USA” markings to indicate their place of origin. The sneakers should be hitting retailers soon, so keep your eyes peeled for a release if you like what you see.

Burn Rubber x New Balance 580 “Workforce Pack”

After taking the sneaker industry by storm last year with one of the most fascinating New Balance collaborations that send collectors on the hunt to find a pair, Detroit retailer Burn Rubber looks to repeat history with the 580 “Workforce Pack”. Slated to release during the Spring of 2012, the Burn Rubber x New Balance 580 “Workforce Pack” features two colorways of the 580 running shoe known as the “Blue Collar” and “White Collar” options. Both pairs contain a mixture of materials in neutral tones including navy, grey and black. The boutiques signature branding comes into play on a specially designed hang tag as well as on a set of lace locks and on the lace tips. The ML581 is a new model from New Balance that’s designed to withstand the elements of trail running. Based of the ever-popular 574, the 581 features a suede, mesh and rubber construction with a rugged outsole for increased traction on the trail surface, along with a hidden shoelace system to help avoid your laces getting snagged on brush. As a long-time New Balance collaborator, Japanese retailer mita sneakers couldn’t wait to put its own spin on the new silhouette and was welcomed by the Boston-based footwear manufacturer to do just that. The shop decided to dress its version of the sneaker in neutral tones of beige, off-white and grey, matching it with a sticky gum outsole. A slight pinch of blue was worked in on the eyelets and tongue and heel branding to complete the look. Unfortunately, the shoes will never see a release in the States, but those of you overseas can find them now at select retailers including Slam Jam.

New Balance 574 “Dragon Pack”

New Balance brings the heat with the 574 “Dragon Pack”. Designed in collaboration with some of the most respected retailers in Asia as a way to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the pack contains five pairs of the 574 silhoeutte, each displaying a highly-detailed dragon illustration in a unique colorway that ties into the Five Phases of ancient Chinese philosophy – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Mita Sneakers (Japan) created a brown pair with a wood-grain like effect to represent wood, Whiz (Japan) created a red and black pair to resemble fire, Invincible (Taiwan) created a green and orange pair to represent mother earth, NPC (China) created a silver pair for metal, and Limited Edt (Japan) created a blue pair to resemble water. Each sneaker also includes specially designed insoles branded with the signature markings of the retailer that designed them. According to reports, the sneakers were created for show and won’t be the exact models available in the retail version of the “Dragon Pack”, which is scheduled to release later this month in Asia.

New Balance 581 – Spring 2012

Trekking meets running in the New Balance 581. A new model scheduled to release during the Spring of 2012, the 581 is based off the iconic 574, but designed more for rugged comfort than refined elegance with a thicker, beefier outsole for improved traction, and a hidden lacing system to minimize your shoelaces getting hung up and coming undone on the trails. Next season will see the release of at least two earthy colorways of the 581, both featuring a lightweight and durable upper constructed of suede, mesh and rubber. Mita x Nitro Microphone Underground x New Balance H710 Collection

Mita Sneakers and Nitro Microphone Underground unite with New Balance on a limited edition collection of H710′s for the fall/winter season. Together, the Japanese footwear retailer and the Japanese hip-hop group designed three colorways of the rugged hiking boot. The color options include Grey/Teal, Royal Blue/Pink and Wheat/Red models, each of which is constructed from a blend of nylon mesh and nubuck, with a GORE-TEX liner to keep your feet warm and dry during the cold winter season. All three are expected to become available in October, exclusively through Mita Sneakers.

New Balance WRC574B Fall/Winter 2011 Releases

New Balance is preparing to launch a few new colorways of the WRC574B in the coming weeks as part of its Fall/Winter 2011 Collection.

Produced exclusively for the women, the WRC574B is a trail-ready hiking boot with a design structure heavily based on the M574 running shoe. Expected to begin arriving at retailers in September are Forest Green, Zinc and Ivy Red colorways of the WRC574B, each featuring a combination of suede, canvas and nubuck materials throughout the upper, along with a soft and warm, white fur lining to keep your feet feeling toasty on those cold winter days.

I don’t think the WRC574B sees too much shelf time in the States, so ladies who reside in the US will have to locate them through an overseas retailer if interested in owning a pair.

New Balance 574 – Black/Grey-Red & Navy/Purple-Grey

The timeless look and comfortable fit of the New Balance 574 make it one of the most popular models in the company’s catalog. Today, we bring you a look at a two new colorways of the classic 574 that have recently become available at retailers.

First up is a Black/Grey-Red colorway for the men. This pair features a black suede and mesh upper with hints of grey on the ankle, heel and N logo. A red outline appears around the logo, complimented by additional hits of red on the tongue tag and the NB stamp on the heel. Grey and white split the midsole while black rounds out the outsole.

The second 574, shown in Navy/Purple-Grey, is a women’s release. Navy suede and mesh construct the base of the upper, joined by purple leather on the ankle and grey leather on the heel tag and N logo. Additional use of purple appears around the logo, on the tongue tag, on the laces and on the top half of the bottom. The bottom half of the midsole is white, with navy further below on the outsole.

Guy’s can find the Black/Grey-Red colorway through Zappos, while ladies can find the Navy/Purple-Grey model through Finish Line.
