Marcus Jordan Causes adidas To Drop Contract With UCF

marcus-jordan-air-jordan-12-rising-sun

Tonight Marcus Jordan and the University of Central Florida Knights took to the court in an exhibition game against the St. Leo Lions. Despite the teams 47-32 win over the Lions, the athletic department at UCF may have lost their most valuable asset thanks to Marcus Jordan, whats left of a $1.9million dollars 5year contract with adidas that was not set to expire until June 2010. Heads at adidas and the big shots who make the calls when it comes to sponsorships for the athletic department had a contractual commitment in their contract  anybody playing for the schools athletic teams were to take to the field, or court, head to toe in supplied adidas gear.

Last month Marcus Jordan made it clear that he was against this agreement in the contract and would not take to the court in a pair of adidas sneakers, but would however wear the supplied adidas uniforms. Marcus stated he much rather preferred the fit and comfort of Air Jordans, the sneakers of his father, over that of adidas. We strongly stood by Marcus Jordan and all athletes out there who play for college sponsored teams as we believe no college should limit their players to what sneakers can and cant be worn since certain sneakers are proven to improve a players game. You could potentially be limiting some of the countrys best athletes to their best abilities by enforcing them to wear a sneaker, or cleat, which may not be the right fit for their foot or style on the field or court.

When Marcus Jordan took to the court tonight against the St. Leo Lions he was wearing the Air Jordan 12 ‘Rising Sun’ instead of the supplied adidas worn by the rest of the team. I had to say, not to knock adidas as i do truly respect their kicks and culture, but the Rising Sun Jordans looked great with the Knights uniform. According to reports adidas the the UCF athletic department were in talks to extend this $1.9 million dollars contract which ends in June 2010, however in a statement given to CNBC adidas is quoted in a statement saying “The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas. As a result, we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward.” This could possibly be the most costly lose for any sponsored school out there as adidas supplied every sports team of the University of Central Florida with equipment.

Once again, we respect Marcus for taking to the court in a pair of kicks which he believes are the best for his game and will help him help him team to a victory. It’s time to stand up athletes. A change needs to be made, dont let colleges limit your abilities. Do you want a scout to see you slacking cause your arch is killing your or cause your sneakers are heavier then what your use to. To all the sponsored companies out there, its time to put a clause in your contracts for this. You say your about the kids and for the kids but your limiting them to their best which is not right. Supply the uniforms, leave the sneakers up to the players preference.

It would be nice now to see MJ and Jordan Brand step up here and fill the gap that the University now faces when it comes to uniforms for their athletic department.

Air Jordan 6 Retro – Black/White

When we first posted posts of the Air Jordan 6 Retro – Black/Varsity Red many of you stated on Twitter that you wish the release of the Air Jordan 6 Retro would come sooner as you can hardly wait until 2010 to get them. There is no doubt the black/varsity red colorway will be the more popular of the Air Jordan 6 Retros however how do you all feel about this black/white version? The upper features a white pebbled leather base with inserts of black nubuck. A white speckle pattern appears on the black heel tab, mid-sole and lacelocks while a translucent outsole straight from the OG Air Jordan 6 wraps up the bottom of the sneakers.

No official release date is available just yet but we do know the Air Jordan 6 Retro – Black/White will be releasing sometime in 2010. Stay tuned for further details and click here to check out a few more photos of the shoes. Via: Sneakerhotline

Jordan Six Rings ‘Motorsports’ – A Closer Look

jordan-six-rings-motorsports

Thanks to the man Kreig Robinson from Michael Jordan Motorsports we are able to provide you with a closer look at the Jordan Six Rings ‘Motorsports’ we showed you the other day. As y0u should know by now the Six Rings were created alongside the Air Jordan VI ‘Motorsports’ to celebrate the 6th Anniversary or Michael Jordan Motorsports. The design scheme and colorway on each of the sneakers was done up in a fashion to match the new paint jobs the sportbikes and trailer received, as well as match the uniforms of the team members. The whole package is just lovely. The Six Rings, the VI’s and the bikes and trailer to match. A match made in heaven.

Unfortunately for all us Air Jordan fans these sneakers will never be released and have only been produced in extremely limited numbers exclusively for the riders and crew of Michael Jordan Motorsports, and close personal friends of MJ. There may be a pair or two which pops up on eBay or through one of the consignment shops, but dont ever expect to see these sitting on stores shelves.

Click here to check out more photos of the Jordan Six Rings ‘Motorsports’ and please give props to Brian J. Nelson who snapped these photos at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ.

Jordan Six Rings ‘Motorsports’

jordan-six-6-rings-motorsports

In 2003 Michael Jordan set out on a venture to establish his very own motorsports team in honor of his love for street bikes and the MotoGP. Each year Jordan has taken one of his popular Air Jordan models and produced them in a design exclusively for his riders Aaron Yates and Geoff May, and the rest of the Michael Jordan Motorsports crew.

Seeing as how this year is the 6th Anniversary of the team Jordan took his 6th signature sneaker and created the Air Jordan 6 ‘Motorsports’ in a white/black color scheme to resemble the fresh new paint job the bikes and trailer got this year. If you recall we took a look at the sneakers quite a few times earlier this year. To go along with the VI’s Jordan also had a limited run of Jordan Six Rings produced in the same white/black color scheme to match the paint job on the bike. Get it? 6th Anniversary, Six Rings. It makes perfect sense, just like the Air Jordan VI did.

Unfortunately the Jordan Six Rings ‘Motorsports’ will never be officially releasing to the public. Just like the VI the Six Rings are only being given out to the Michael Jordan Motorsports riders, the crew and Jordan’s personal friends. So just enjoy the pictures provided by clicking here. Props go out to G-Roc over at TSG for the photos.
