Fila Cage Scheduled To Return In Spring 2012

Arguably one of Fila’s best basketball silhouettes, the Fila Cage is scheduled to return next year during the spring season. Originally introduced in 1993, the Cage has a history that dates back a few years further than both Grant Hill and Jerry Stackhouse’s signature Fila sneakers, to a time when the company was still struggling to make an impression on the US market. It wasn’t until Grant Hill’s signature sneakers were released in 1995 when Fila started to become popular in the US.

For the most part, the Cage looks exactly like it did 18 years ago. There are, however, a few minor differences before the retro and original models. For starters, the cage-style heel tab, which is one of the most distinctive features of the shoe, is constructed from memory foam as opposed to rubber on the original model that would eventually crack over time. There’s also some small changes in the styling of the midsole.

Shown here are 6 upcoming colorways of the Fila Cage that are slated to hit Fila retailers worldwide during the Spring 2012 season. The color variations include Black/Purple-Blue, Grey/Purple-White, White/Blue-Red, White/Red-Black, White/Blue-Yellow, and Black/Red-White. Will any of them be on your list of must-haves next year? Fila Bull Strap Chukka

As you may or may not know, Fila is making an attempt to get back in the game. The Grant Hill’s were released late in 2008 under the Fila Ninety6 name to honor the year in which they originally released, and since then the company has been releasing model after model with hopes to grasp your attention sooner or later. Since nobody else really seems to be doing some, with obvious reason we’re sure, we’d figure we’d give Fila a little plug here with their newly release Bull Strap Chukka.

The Bull Strap Chukka is Fila’s attempt to get in on the chukka market. To debut the chukka Fila dropped two colorways, a brown model and a black model. The both feature a combination of leather, suede and nubuck throughout the upper with a basket weave embossed filabuck toe-box and heel. Across the leather vamp panels is a wide hook-and-loop strap with metal Fila logo hardware on the strap and on the side of the collar.

Can’t say I’m the biggest fan, but it’s unique none the less and I gotta applaud Fila for not ripping off the design of another company with this one. If your interested in the Bull Strap Chukka from Fila you can get em now in black or brown at DrJays.

Fila x Honda Racing Shoe Collection

FILA and Honda Racing have joined forces to create a sneaker collection that combines FILA’s rich design heritage and Honda Racing’s commitment to fulfill every car enthusiast’s racing dreams.

The collaborative footwear line pays homage to Honda’s outstanding core technology and culture of innovation, as well as its appeal to young car enthusiasts.

Each pair of sneakers in this collection has numerous special features such as a low profile outsole that allows the wearer to feel the control of the gear and the gas pedals when driving. An internal injected EVA midsole which provides maximum comfort without adding weight or thickness. Lightweight upper materials as well as ballistic mesh panels that allow breathability while maintaining strength.The the Honda Racing shoes also include Polyurethane panels for excellent fit and durability at the heel.

The Fila x Honda Racing Collection will be available sometime this month in a low cut version and a mid cut design. The lows will be available in three colorways while the mids will be available in two colorways. The sneakers will be carried through FILA’s foremost retail partners, fila.com and hondaracingline.com.

Samurai Magazine x MACKDADDY x Fila ‘Mack Squad’ Sneakers

To celebrate all the hard work put in and achievements earned to reach their 10th Anniversary, Samurai Magazine has teamed up with MACKDADDY to collaborate on a limited edition run of Fila sneakers.

Almost impossible to miss comes these vibrant Fila shoes known as the Mack Squad. The shoes have been done up in a few shades of lime green and accented with purple which comes in the form of some sort of cloth material. Defiantly not a color scheme which will fit everybodys taste but one which is defiantly unique in its own sense. Its nice to see Samurai Magazine getting involved with some more collaborations in the footwear industry cause whenever they seem to get down on a pair of kicks the outcome is always something original and something which is sure to catch some attention. Some of you may remember the unusual colorways used on the two New Balance H710J models which Samurai Magazine designed in collaboration with Mita back in 2006.

Im not quite sure on where you can scoop a pair of these up at the moment but according to Hypebeast retail price is ¥12,600 or approx. $128 USD.

ALIFE Rivington Club x FILA Preview

Its been quite a few years since Fila has been a competitor in the footwear industry but that may all change in the coming months with this new collaboration in the works with ALIFE Rivington Club. The release of the Fila Ninety6, also known as the Grant Hill II retros, helped the company to generate some buzz in a long time, specially with the help of Jeff Staple who got down with Reebok to collaborate on a pair of the Ninety6 but since have seemed to fall to the back burner again. Maybe thats cause over the past few months they have been working this collaboration up with ALIFE Rivington Club.

At this time all we have is this preview image so make sure you keep it locked for further info. An official release will be set for sometime in June.

Fila Ninety6 – Black/Blue

DrJays has just gotten in a brand new colorway of the Fila Grant Hill 2 Retros which are now known as the Fila Ninety6. This pair of the Fila Ninety6 comes with a predominantly black upper highlighted with blue accents and a splash of white. The sneakers have an adjustable strap on the heel with ‘FILA’ emboridered on it and the patent leather around the upper and on the tongue just like the other Fila Ninety6 releases and the original Grant Hill 2 shoes.

Fila Ninety6 Phoenix Suns – Detailed Pictures

Yesterday we took a look at a Fila Ninety6 Phoenix Suns Colorway and now thanks to SoleBlvd we have some detailed pictures of the sneakers to show you. As we originally reported the sneakers are designed using a grey, white and purple colorway which seems to resemble the Phoenix Suns color scheme, which is the team Grant Hill plays for today. From what we hear the sneakers are scheduled to be released soon at select retailers including a release on Fila.com. Retail price will be $90.

Fila Ninety6 – Phoenix Suns

Since the release of the Fila Ninety6, formerly the signature sneaker of Grant Hill, a few different color variations have been released but until now none of them resembled the team Hill plays for today. Seen here is a gray, yellow and purple color scheme of the Ninety6 which looks like something you would see on the feet of the Phoenix Suns players. Is this a sign that Fila wants Grant Hill back, or Fila just making bank off his old signature sneakers? Either way who cares, this is a pretty nice looking colorway of the Ninety6 if you ask me. No info on a release date at this time.

Jeff Staple (Reed Space) x Fila Ninety6 (96)

Jeff Staple, who many of you know as the founder of Reed Space and the designer of the Pigeon Dunks and New Balance sneakers, has hooked up with Fila on the Ninety6 (96). Fila allowed Jeff to knock out 3 exclusive colorways of the Fila Ninety6 (Grant Hill 2 Retro) which will only be found for sale at his shop, Reed Space in NYC. Jeff used the classic OG white/navy model which he added a few personal touches too, along with a New York Knicks colorway reppin their hometown team and lastly a CMYK color separation version which creates a flashy looking color scheme. Reed Space branding is found throughout each model on the heel tag and on the inner side panel.

For a chance to pick one of these up hit up Reed Space on Firday, November 21st for their official release. There has been no mention of a retail price at this time. Solo shot of each model follows after the jump.

Back in early October we reported that Fila would be releasing a Grant Hill 2 Retro under the name Ninety6. Since Grant Hill is now sponsored by Adidas Fila came up with the name Ninety6 due to the fact the sneakers were originally released during 1996. Finishline has recently stocked their shelves and online store with the Ninety6, aka Grant Hill 2 Retro, for a price of $89.99 in either the white/navy/red color scheme shown above, or an all black model. Also available now through Finishline for pre-sale is a royal/red/white colorway of the Fila Ninety6.
