Is there anything that Nike or Nike SB cant find inspiration from when it comes to designing a pair of sneakers? I swear these guys could create a pair of shoes inspired by a rock. We recently just showed you the TV Nike SB Dunks, inspired by none other then the television and now we present to you a pair of Nike Delta Force Mids inspired by the Microwave.
These Delta Force shoes arent inspired by just any old microwave though. Instead Nike designed them in reference to former NBA player Vinnie Johnson, of the Detroit Pistions. Vinnie got the nickname ‘The Microwave’ during the 80s and his days of playing on the hard floor. During his carreer Vinne had proven to be a force to be reckon with from the Detroit Pistions bench and was known as the teams 6th man. Whether it was knocking down some bench points or keeping a strong eye on the ball while on defense, Vinnie was able to get it done.
Keeping with a theme releated to a microwave and Vinnie Johnson Nike designed the Delta Force in a classic Detriot Pistons color way and also included graphics along the insoles which look like they have been taken straight from a microwaves key pad. Above the numbers printed on the key pad displayed on the insoles are phrases like “Sixth Man”, “Defense”, “Instant Offense” and “Bench Points” which reference Vinnie Johnson and what he was known for. Added features include the Nike font on the heel styled like that of a clock with straight edges.
The Microwave Nike Delta Force Mid will be a limited release which will be sold exclusively at House Of Hoops on March 21st. Follow the jump for a look at further details. Via: SC
