Converse has been granted with special licensing privileges from Nintendo to create a collection of Chuck Taylor’s honoring the iconic Super Mario Bros video game.
The footwear company used their license to put together a total of four sneakers. Two of them, one in white and another in black, both standard Chuck Taylor’s, have repeating graphics of Mario and a red Chuck Taylor throughout the upper, along with graphics of Luigi and a green Chuck on the insoles.
The other two sneakers in the collection are Roll-Down models and they contain screenshots from the game itself. One shows Mario jumping over goomba’s in level 1 as he tries to collect coins and power-ups, and the other shows him fighting King Koopa in the last level.
A Super Mario Bros tongue tag appears on all four of the sneakers and the games signature yellow star replaces the blue star in the patch on the ankle and black stats that’s usually found on the midsole heel stamp. Additionally, the sneakers come packaged in a Super Mario Bros box.
According to reports, the two pairs with the repeating Mario graphics are slated to release in July and the First Level and Last Level versions are scheduled to follow in August. It’s unknown at this time if the sneakers will be released anywhere other than Japan.
