Concepts and New Balance have come to a decision on the release date for “The Kennedy”, their co-branded project involving the 999 running shoe. We first learned about the collaboration between these two Boston-based brands back in December, when a picture of the sneaker appeared on the 20th issue of Sneaker Freaker. Shortly afterwards, the magazine provided us with detailed images of the shoe’s, and the sneaker community react, having nothing but good things to say about them.
Featuring a sporty, nautical-inspired design, “The Kennedy” is a tribute to late President John F. Kennedy and the passion he had for sailing, primarily around Massachusetts’ Cape Cod. The sneakers are constructed mostly from various shades of grey suede, which is joined by a lesser amount of tan suede, white mesh and blue ripstop nlyon. Accents of red appear on the uppermost eyelets and on the “NB” hit across the heel. While the colorway and material usage itself is enough to make these shoe’s a must-have, sailing flags on the tongue tag and inner lining make these truly unique and unforgettable.
The CNCPTS x New Balance 999 “The Kennedy” is slated to release on April 2nd, 2011 through Concepts and other select retailers in the US. The sneakers will not be available online through the Concepts webstore and from our understanding the shop is still debating on whether or not they’ll be accepting phone orders after the in-line customers get theirs.
