Jordan Brand prepares to celebrate Black History Month with a limited release of the Air Jordan 3 Retro this coming Saturday. Featuring a black and gold colorway, the Air Jordan 3 Retro “Black History Month” is complemented by a collection of meaningful details throughout the shoe. The standard elephant print you’re use to seeing on the AJ3 is replaced by lasered sketches that hold significance to Black History Month and Michael Jordan. For example, the year “1987” is etched onto the heel, recognizing the year Jordan Brand started its Mars Blackmon campaign and when MJ won his first slam dunk and scoring titles. You’ll also notice MJ’s number, 23, and a hand with three-fingers raised. The pattern of the graphics vary from shoe to shoe. Throughout the shoe you’ll notice the “BHM” (Black History Month) logo in red, black, green and gold. The colors signify the those of the African American flag, while the gold symbolizes a call to greatness. Furthermore, the insoles include the “A Call to Greatness” badge, the number XXXV to represent the 35th anniversary of Black History Month, and the BHM logo.
The Air Jordan 3 Retro “Black History Month” is scheduled to release at select Jordan Brand retailers on Saturday, February 26th, 2011. If you’re keep tracking, this is the also same release date for the Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Black History Month”, the Air Jordan 13 Retro “Playoff” and the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Sport Red”.
