After warming up sneakerheads with retro releases of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Retro, Nike started to bring back the Air Griffey Max GD II, Ken Griffey Jr’s second signature sneaker. The first colorway to hit the shelves was the original Black/Varsity Red model, which landed at retailers around the end of March, beginning of April. Next in line is White/Metallic Silver-Black version which is very reminiscent to another OG colorway released back in 2002.
Upon first glance some may suspect these are an exact duplicate to those which released 8 years ago, but true Swingman ‘heads will notice the differences separating these from the originals. All the color’s have been carried over from the OG version, they’re just laid out in a different manor. The white leather base is obviously the same, however, the metallic silver and black accent’s have been switched around. On the OG version the base color surrounding the perforated paneling on the quarter panel was black, with a thin silver outline, as you can see on this pair for 2010 silver is used as the main accent color with black surrounding. The material is also different, as the black on the 2002 version was patent leather with this years release looking to be regular leather. Other noticeable differences are the black accents on the tongue, inner lining and Nike Swoosh, all of which were silver on the years past release. The most noticeable feature lacking on these is the translucent outsole, a detailed I dearly loved on the OG version. It’s unfortunate Nike swapped it out for a basic white outsole.
I’m not quite sure an exact release date but a legit seller on eBay is taking pre-offers now for various sizes and has listed that an expected shit day is set for around the second week of June.
