Milkcrate Sues Nike Over LeBron James Sneakers

Milkcrate Athletics Inc, a New York City based streetwear company founded by Aaron LaCrate, has issued a trademark infringement lawsuit against Nike claiming that LeBron James’ signature sneakers are “confusingly similar” to sneakers produced under the Milkcrate umbrella.

The suit, filed in a Manhattan court, charges that the Nike Zoom LeBron Solider II and Nike Zoom LeBron V both infringe upon Milkcrate’s trademarks and could “cause confusion and deceive customers” due to the similarities. Milkcrate, who is known for their milk crate logo and milk crate-like grid patterns, claims in the lawsuit that pattern on the sole of the Solider II and the “milk crate” wording on both of the sneakers clearly resemble their logo and name, and violates their intellectual property. To make good for the infringement Milkcrate is seeking unspecified damages and asking Nike to recall the Nike Zoom LeBron Solider II, Nike Zoom LeBron V and any other sneaker which uses a milk crate like pattern or the milk crate wording.

Top brass at Nike have fired back stating that the lawsuit is without merit and that the footwear giant would defend itself “vigorously” against Milkcrate Athletics Inc..
