Nike’s been digging deep in the vaults lately, reissuing some of their gems from yesteryear and using a few of the models for inspiration to create entirely new retro-styled silhouettes. Sometimes, before they drop the original classic on us, they’ll go and release the new model first to butter us up for the OG’s. Case in point, the Nike Dynasty81 Hi, a classic basketball sneaker originally released in 1981 which Nike has brought back to the market. With a little bit of confusion to go with it.
Before releasing the Dynasty81 Hi Nike released a model known simply as the Dynasty High, without the 81. The shoes were obviously loosely based after the original Dynasty, however they included some design traits of their own which made them completely different from the original Dynasty. Besides for modifying the layout of the paneling on the upper, there was also the addition of an ankle strap on the new Dynasty, something which the original Dynasty didn’t have. By releasing the revamped model before the original it confused many and had them thinking that the sneakers were the same as those from 1981, which wasn’t the case. The original Dynasty, the Dynasty81 Hi, eventually followed shortly after the release of the new model.
Since bringing the original Dynasty81 Hi back Nike’s released an entourage of color schemes, from quickstrike releases to general releases, most of which have all been pretty stylish. With the shoes bringing in good sales and the market in high demand for retro-styled sneakers, Nike has no plans to lay the Dynasty81 Hi to rest just yet. In fact, the newest colorway is making the rounds to retailers now.
For the latest offering of the Dynasty81 Hi Nike served up a White/Silver colorway which uses a combination of white leather and silver mesh. Color accents are almost slim to known, with just a touch of navy blue appearing on the NIKE branding on the heel and tongue, and on the outsole. Those who are interested can grab a pair for themselves through DrJays for a price of $78.
