The other day we previewed the Hanon x Asics GT II “Northen Liites”, a co-branded project between the athletic running shoe company and the Scottish boutique. Thankfully we can now give you a much closer look at the shoes as Hanon has supplied us with a slew of photos showing off the sneakers.
As if the name wasn’t clear enough, the Asics GT II “Northern Liites”, yes with two i’s, is inspired by the colorful Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, which is a fitting theme coming from Hanon as Scotland is one of the few places in the world where one can see the Northern Lights in all their glory.
Starting off the theme is a black and grey base constructed of suede, leather and nylon which represents the night sky. Bringing together the colors the Northern Lights are known for are the Asics stripes, which use alternate colors on the lateral and medial sides of the uppers in a mixture of red, purple, turquoise, and yellow. The color accents have been given a reflective Scothlite treatment as well to really make em shine. The tongue tag features a stylized Hanon logo which we’re told uses a play on Northern Soul, soul music from Northern England which originated in the 60’s, and is designed in such a way that it’s made to represent the old 45 records that are big among vinyl collectors. The slogan of this type of music is “Keep On Burning”, which can be seen worked into the logo, along with a flame graphic.
Now for the release details. Hanon will be the first to release the sneakers, as it’s only right, on April 10th. A week later the sneakers will touch down on April 17th at select retailers around the global, exact locations not available.
